Production incentives

Film creates cultural and economic added value, is environmentally friendly and employs a large number of people and services. The Czech government recognises the significance of this industry and supports it with production incentives provided from the state budget. The state guarantees the refund of up to 20 percent of funds spent in the Czech Republic.

The production incentives scheme is intended for feature, animated and documentary films and for film series.

What we support

• Feature, animation and documentary films (at least 70 minutes)
• Scripted television – one-offs (at least 70 minutes) and episodic TV (at least 30 minutes per episode)
• Animated TV series (at least 5 minutes per episode)

How much you get

• 20 % cash rebate on eligible costs in the Czech Republic
• 66 % cash rebate on withholding tax paid in the Czech Republic
• Maximum eligible costs set at 80 % of the total budget
• No cap on per-project grant Payment in two instalments possible

How to qualify

• Pass a cultural test
• Minimum eligible costs in the Czech Republic
  • CZK 15 million (EUR 585,600) for a theatrical, TV and animated feature
  • CZK 2 million (EUR 78,100) for a documentary feature
  • CZK 8 million (EUR 312,300) for an episode of a TV series
  • CZK 1 million (EUR 39,000) for an episode of animated series
• The applicant must be a tax resident in the Czech Republic with a place of business or permanent establishment in the Czech Republic and provide financial information about the project plus audited statements demonstrating the eligible costs incurred.

Application process

• Registration possible at any time of the year
• Allocation of rebates possible at any time of the year, although the time of application for allocation is important: within 4 months after the submission of application, at least 10 shooting days in the Czech Republic must have been completed
• A service agreement is sufficient
